Old Mutual Wealth appoints Mike Mainwaring as head of sponsorship

Old Mutual Wealth, one of the UK’s largest wealth management businesses, today announces the appointment of Mike Mainwaring as head of sponsorship.

The appointment of Mike Mainwaring comes as Old Mutual Wealth embarks on a new era of sponsorship for the business as a Principal Partner of England Rugby. Mike’s initial focus will be on Old Mutual Wealth’s title sponsorship of England Rugby Men’s and Women’s Autumn Internationals, which will become known as the Old Mutual Wealth Series from 2016. This is the first Principal Partnership to cover both teams’ autumn matches.

Mike has over 16 years’ experience in sponsorship and joins Old Mutual Wealth from sportswear firm Canterbury, where he successfully led its sponsorship strategy, including Rugby World Cup 2015 activity. Mike was previously a Director at Generate, an independent sports marketing agency and prior to that managed Carlsberg UK’s sponsorship portfolios across football, rugby and music.

Mike will report to Michelle Andrews, marketing director at Old Mutual Wealth.

Mike Mainwaring commented:

“I am relishing the opportunity to work with an ambitious brand with a fantastic heritage which has just made a significant commitment to men’s and women’s rugby in England. I am excited to be working with England Rugby on the Old Mutual Wealth Series and look forward to seeing the brand’s first involvement with the England men’s team when they take on Wales on 29th May for the Old Mutual Wealth Cup.”

Michelle Andrews, marketing director at Old Mutual Wealth, added:

“I am delighted to welcome Mike into this key role. We want our sponsorship of England Rugby to go beyond the branding. Mike has vast experience of working with the Rugby and is ideally placed to help us be a true partner and help the sport prosper.”
