Privacy and Cookie Policy

Last updated: 25 April 2014

This Privacy and Cookie Policy covers Old Mutual Wealth’s treatment of personally identifiable and other information that Old Mutual Wealth collects and receives. ‘Data’ and ‘Information’ includes information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, address (including email address), or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available. The Policy also provides information to help you understand the use of cookies on Old Mutual Wealth websites you may visit.

Data security

In order to check your identity, and protect you and your money from fraud, we may ask for personal information at the start of our relationship and in subsequent communications. This is a requirement of the 1998 Data Protection Act and is important to help safeguard you against potential crime.

Privacy Policy

We will only use your personal data in line with the provisions of the Data Protection Act. Your data will be used to process your application and service your plan.

Sometimes we may provide your data, by electronic or other means, to:

  • other companies within the Old Mutual Wealth and the Old Mutual groups of companies (if we regard this as necessary to service your plan)
  • your financial adviser
  • a third party to verify your identity, in line with money laundering or other requirements (this may involve carrying out checks with credit reference databases)
  • third parties who perform tasks for us to help us service your plan (these third parties may be based in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA)).

Whilst countries outside the EEA may not have data protection laws equivalent to the UK’s, we will ensure that third parties agree to treat your data with the same level of protection as if we were dealing with it.

We may also share your data with other organisations, including the police, and check and/or file your data with fraud prevention agencies and databases to prevent and detect fraud. If we are given false or inaccurate information and we suspect fraud, we will record this. Your data may be made available to third parties where required by law, court order or regulation.

Old Mutual Wealth and the Old Mutual group of companies may also use your data for assessment and statistical analysis purposes. Where we have obtained your consent to do so, we may also use the data to keep you informed about any special offers you may be entitled to or about products and services, available from the Old Mutual Wealth Group companies, which we think may be of interest to you.

Using fraud prevention agencies

We have systems that protect us and our customers against fraud and other crime. Customer information can be used to prevent crime and trace those responsible. We may share your personal information from your account with fraud prevention agencies. If false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud is identified, details of this fraud will be passed to these agencies. Law enforcement agencies may access and use this information. We and other organisations may also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example, when:

  • checking details on applications
  • checking details on claims
  • recovering debt
  • checking details of job applicants and employees.

Recording telephone calls

We may monitor or record phone calls with you in case we need to check we have carried out your instructions correctly, to resolve queries or issues, for regulatory purposes, to help improve our quality of service, and to help detect or prevent fraud or other crimes. Conversations may also be monitored for staff training purposes.

Using your details for service contact

Different methods of communication may be used when sending you information about your account. Most of the time contact in connection with products held or applied for will be by letter or telephone, but you may also be sent updates by text message or email when it is believed to be appropriate. You can ask us to stop sending these text messages at any time. Additionally, in extraordinary circumstances (such as natural disaster or civil unrest) we may also send you updates by text message or email. If we decide to use email to contact you, we will only do this if we have ensured that using email will not put your information at risk, or, if you have requested we email you and after we have explained the risks of sending an insecure email and that you are happy to accept that risk.

If you send us emails, such as from your personal account, then remember that the message may not be secure and there is a risk that it could be intercepted. If you choose to send an insecure email, please keep the amount of confidential information you include to a minimum.

Obtaining a copy of your information and making changes

You can make changes to your information and marketing preferences held by Old Mutual Wealth at any time.

Under the Data Protection Act you have the right of access to your personal data. The Act allows us to charge a fee of £10 for this service. If anything is inaccurate or incorrect, please let us know and we will correct it. For further details on how to request a copy of your information, please write to:
